Johnson City Public Schools

Johnson City Schools 2 The Johnson City School System has ten schools with an enrollment of 7,189 students for the 2007-2008 school year. There are 522 certified teachers, 273 classified employees and 37 administrators employed by the school system. Science Hill High School is comprised of the 10-12 campus, 8-9 campus, Vocation/Technical Center and the Henry Johnson Alternative Learning Center. There are eight elementary schools and one middle school. All elementary and secondary schools are accredited by the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS.)

All teachers in the Johnson City School System are certified with no waivers or permits. Currently there are 15 teachers who have received National Board Certification and several who are in the process of completing the requirements for certification. Three hundred fifty-eight of our teachers have Master's degrees or higher. All Johnson City Schools' teachers have met requirements for highly qualified status as outlined in the state standards for No Child Left Behind.

Johnson City Schools consistently scores above state and national ACT and SAT scores and TCAP academic performance exceeds state and national averages in every discipline and grade level tested. Johnson City Schools also achieves exemplary ratings at all levels on all non-academic indicators such as attendance, promotion and drop-out rate.

Tri-Cities Christian School (PK-6)
The mission of Tri-Cities Christian Schools is to provide the family with a Christ-centered, biblically directed education that instills the vision and practice of excellence in academics, character, co-curricular activities and service to others.

Tri-Cities Christian Schools was founded in 1973 as an independent, non-profit educational institution chartered by the state of Tennessee and operated by a Board of Directors. TCCS is a nondenominational school that exists for the purpose of educating preschool through senior high students and making this education genuinely a Christian education.

The first school building occupied by TCCS was located at 1200 East Center St in Kingsport, TN. Four classrooms rented from the city of Kingsport served as both office and classrooms for grades 9, 10, 11 in the fall of 1973 with twenty seven students in attendance on opening day.
TCCS now has five campuses serving the Tri-Cities area located in Bristol, Kingsport, Blountville, Johnson City, and Gray.

East Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University is located in Johnson City, a community of nearly 60,000 residents, in the northeast corner of Tennessee, the Volunteer State.
ETSU's James H. Quillen College of Medicine is located on the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at neighboring Mountain Home.
